Joy in Volosovo by Denis Kozlov

volosovoI was recently invited to minister at a small, young church outside of Saint Petersburg in a town called Volosovo, which holds a population of just 12,000.  This particular church could rightfully be considered a grandchild of Russians Reaching Russians (RRR) because RRR founder,  Rick Ives, trained a couple(Sergei and Nadia Stagneyev)  way back in the early 1990s, and they trained and planted this church just as they were taught.

Today, there are 50 believers that assemble together to pray, worship and hear from the Word of God. and they invited me that day to join them in celebrating their four-year anniversary.  But they were also celebrating another important milestone: That day was the very first time they were allowed to meet together in a public setting.

For four years, local officials were hostile toward them and saw to it that no one would rent them a facility for public services. They prayed for four years for a public space while meeting  in members’ apartments, which, as you might imagine, are very small so they could not invite new people. In time, the Lord answered their prayers.  An Armenian family of entrepreneurs started a business in the middle of the town. They built a nice, two-story building. The first floor was converted into a restaurant and the second floor was turned into a small hotel.  The pastor (Dmitry) approached them and asked if they would let the church gather in the restaurant on Saturday or Sunday mornings. The owner agreed because there are no customers in the restaurant during those hours, and now the church has a facility  they can utilize for their church body with space enough to grow.

I realize that it may not sound like a big deal, but try to imagine not being able to worship publicly in your own hometown for four years.  Having this door opened is truly a miracle to those Christians. I rejoiced with them, and we had a wonderful time of celebration. I ask that you please pray for this church to become an effective witness for the Lord and pray for the favor of God to accompany them and protect them from the attacks of the enemy.
