Traveling plans for this fall (by Denis Kozlov)

16 October 2012 No Comment

We are just weeks away from our regular short-term missions trip to Russia. American
Christians will be traveling to Saint Petersburg to minister to Russian Christians and church
leaders. Please pray for God’s blessings and His presence to be with the team. I, together with
team leaders and Russian pastors, have coordinated and organized a rather aggressive plan for
this trip.

First, we will conduct the annual leadership conference for pastors and their spouses as well as
church and ministry leaders. Each year, we focus on issues and topics that serve to encourage
and equip leaders to fulfill their calling. This year, American leaders of RRR are sponsoring
a conference designed around a very practical tool diagnostic assessment called Leading from
Your Strengths (LFYS), which is an organizational team-building tool. LFYS has been helpful
to many American Churches and Christian ministries and we believe we can use it to help
Russian leaders as well.

Fellowship Church in Springfield, Ohio, serves as the headquarters for RRR and they have
successfully used this tool to define roles and identify needs. LFYS relies on participants taking
an online test, and ten tabulates the results to indentify individual leadership profiles to help
leaders better understand strengths, weaknesses, limitations and level of people vs. project
orientation. The results benefit our Russian leaders as they grow their organization and staffs.
We trust this tool will be a blessing to Russian churches.

Because most Russian, evangelical churches are very young (10-15 years old), leadership
development is a primary strategy of RRR. Christianity gained relative freedom in the early
1090s when the Soviet Union collapsed. Because churches are so young, it is challenging for
pastors to be secure in their role to raise leaders in their churches. We pray this seminar will
help many of them understand the importance and the dynamics of successful team-building.

Also, pastor Grant Edwards and Ray Willis will conduct a discipleship training seminar to equip
Russian churches to carry out one-on-one discipleship based on the First Steps Discipleship
program. Pastor Grant is the founder of First Steps, and it has been successfully used in
thousands of churches and ministries nationally and internationally.

Pastor Igor Sokolov, the pastor Harvest Church in Saint Petersburg, requested that the team
present leadership-development and team-building topics to his church, so members of the
American team are preparing to offer practical workshops and trainings to men and women at
Christian, drug-rehabilitation centers. They will also be serving children and young adults raised
in orphanages.

On the last Sunday of the trip, the team will be ministering in several churches and enjoying
some fellowship and fun. Last year, we conducted a Russia vs. USA bowling competition.
Everyone enjoyed it so much that we are planning to do it again this year. And, of course, we
will make sure the American team will have time to see some of the beautiful sites of the city.

Lastly, here is a little trick for you to learn how to say Thank You in Russian. It’s Spaseeba. I
always tell my American friends to remember Spicy Ball and the drop the L sound at the end. I
hope you got it.

The dates of this year’s trip is November 5 – 15. Please pray for this trip and Spasseba to you
for your prayers. I hope to see you on one of these trips in the future.
