Modern Day Book of Acts by Grant Edwards

25 July 2017 No Comment

In last month’s newsletter, we heard from Pastor Rick Ives, the founder of Russians Reaching Russians (RRR), as he shared a number of updates about his previous trip to Russia in May. This month, Pastor Grant Edwards shares some incredible stories from that same trip and they are reminiscent of the many accounts in the Book of Acts. God is a supernatural God, and we oftentimes relegate Him to logical categories that fit a materialist worldview. It is when we open our eyes and faith to God and His supernatural workings that we are able to see His and experience His mighty acts. As always, we thank you for making the ministry of RRR possible through your prayer and financial gifts, and we ask that you would continue to pray and support the ministry going forward.

The following are accounts from Pastor Grant Edwards:

I felt like I was having Book-of-Acts conversations in many of my interactions. Miracles, wonders, and God doing incredible things are commonplace. All of the accounts below were conveyed to me by individuals (pastors, leaders, believers) we encountered as we traveled in Siberia to conduct discipleship training. We came into contact with leaders from more than 700 churches in our trainings, and all are actively engaged in church planting and sending missionaries. Their work is spreading throughout Siberia, China, Mongolia, and many of the CIS states and they are reaching many unreached people groups. One of the leading pastors stated that there is revival throughout Siberia and they benefit greatly from the excellent teaching and equipping they receive from Americans. They offered effusive praise and thanks for our discipleship training and a number of leaders remarked that it would change the way church is done.

Part of the training we do focuses in our praying with specificity, and I usually share a remarkable story of a man who was imprisoned and estranged from his family for 15 years. His prayer was to be forgiven by and reunited with his mother, which happened the very day he prayed for that. One of the men in this training in Siberia heard that testimony and decided he would pray specifically to be restored to his brother whom he stabbed years ago and for which he spent six years in prison. This man and his brother had not seen or spoken to one another in almost a decade. That weekend during the church service, he turned around during worship and was stunned to see his brother standing behind him. They renewed their relationship on the spot. God is good!

Another man was taking a boat trip on a river in the Siberian wilderness when they came upon a family stranded because their boat broke down. People in that area do not help one another because they fear they will not have enough, putting everyone in jeopardy. The pastor, however, made the guides stop and help, and when they delivered the family to their village, the entire village came out and heard the gospel and accepted Jesus. The pastor relayed that the village was an oral culture and they sit around at night telling stories. That night, he was able to tell the story of Jesus and included his life, ministry, the last supper, the arrest, the crucifixion, and, of course, the resurrection. At one point, he noticed that many were becoming agitated and he heard the clicking sound of rifles being cocked and bullets being chambered. In that awkward moment, the village elder stated that they were doing so because they wanted to take revenge on Judas. Once that was clarified, the entire village accepted Jesus. God is good!

I could go on for hours, but let me summarize just a few more testimonies of the hundreds we heard:

  • One worship leader was healed from AIDS. another was healed from a fatal neurological disorder, and another from terminal cancer
  • A young women hopped into a bus and began proclaiming the gospel to everyone on the bus and the entire bus prayed to receive Jesus
  • FHere’s one for cat-lovers: A pastor and his daughter were sad because her cat died. She cried all night. In the morning, they decided to pray for the cold, stiff cat that they put into the freezer overnight. As the prayed, the cat got up and started purring
  • Finally, with all the miracles we were hearing about, I asked a group of pastors if any of them witnessed someone being raised from the dead. Not one of them was shocked by my question, and two responded that they had. God is good!
