Update by Yan Volkov

Dear partners,

In this issue, Yan Volkov provides an overview of last year and his outlook for this year. Yan has an amazing testimony of how the Lord saved him in the early 1990s when he was a troubled young. Today, he is one of the most influential Christian ministers in Russia, operating a large prison ministry and Christian television ministry. We invested in Yan when he was just starting out, and, through our relationship, many doors are opening for RRR in Russia. I ask that you prayerfully consider donating this month to RRR to help people like Yan reach many Russian people for Christ.

On one hand, last year was quite eventful and successful in my opinion. We held 14 training seminars at different churches, equipping them to work with Russian prisons by ministering to inmates and serving their families outside of jail. Each year, we mobilize churches to do special events for children of incarcerated parents, and we call this project the Angel’s Christmas Tree. On the other hand, last year was also difficult because one of our key leaders and my co-worker went to be with the Lord, which forced me to take on many new responsibilities.

We built another children’s playground in one of the holding tanks for incarcerated mothers who were arrested while pregnant. Russian law allows such mothers keep the baby with them in prison for three years. We also organized an event for children of prison workers. In total, 800 kids had a chance to have fun and participate in all kinds of activities. With the help of volunteers, we installed water purification and water treatment systems in two prisons in the Northwest region of Russia, and we held a seminar with RRR and First Steps Discipleship Ministry to train prison workers to

conduct one-on-one discipleship. The goal is to equip inmates to disciple other inmates. We have stepped up our efforts to equip churches to preach the gospel effectively by word and by deed. The lesson I am still learning is to see every trial and difficulty as something that the Lord allowed purposefully to take us deeper into Him and higher in our life and ministry. Since we are in the beginning of 2017, I would like our American partners to pray for me to be restored in my physical strength and for the divine order in my life to reign. I need to be more mindful and intentional about my health and my lifestyle that would contribute to good physical health. I also need prayer for practical wisdom to be able to manage my time in the most effective way. If you pray for the ministry, please pray for the Lord to open the doors of those prisons that are still closed that we may bring the gospel to inmates and prison workers. We are praying and working toward launching a new satellite TV channel for children in 2017. We also expect to see a breakthrough for many churches in the area of discipleship of new believers, and I am very grateful to the people in the US who have dedicated themselves to support the work of RRR. I can testify that the Lord is using RRR to strengthen churches in Russia to reach maturity and fruitfulness. We know there are no boundaries or nationalities in the kingdom of God, and I believe that all we do for the kingdom transcends natural and cultural boundaries.
