Reflections by Sheila Noel

When Rick and Heather Ives visited our church last May, Rick mentioned that they were headed to Russia in November. I asked for details and the rest, as they say, is history. My friend Brenda and I began our quest to go on a missions trip to Russia with the ministry of Russian Reaching Russians (RRR).
We weren’t sure what to expect. Neither of us had been on a mission trip nor had either of us been to Russia. We were excited and nervous yet confident that our Lord would use us for His glory.
The trip blessed us beyond what we could ever have imagined, but isn’t that the way of our Lord. We were encouraged so much by the way God is working in Russia and how RRR is being used to bring people to the saving knowledge of our Lord and Savior. I am humbled that our team from a small church in Santa Fe, Texas, plays a part in this ministry. We are grateful and give God the glory!
In the US, it is common to see churches everywhere, but the thing I noticed most as we traveled out of Saint Petersburg and into villages and towns surrounding Saint Petersburg was that churches were few and far between. In Saint Petersburg, I saw only Russian Orthodox churches and nothing else, which served to solidify for me the importance of American partnership for ministries like RRR.
One of the hard-working couples we met and full-time Jesus lovers were Sergi and Nadia Stagneev. They are planting churches, ministering in orphanages, and working with drug rehab and teen centers all over. The Stagneevs are truly the hands and feet of Jesus, and we get to partner with them as supporters of RRR. Praise God!
