White Nights in Siberia! by Rick Ives

20 June 2016 No Comment

MashaI recently returned from two weeks in Russia, spending time in both Saint Petersburg and Novosibirsk, which is the third largest city in Russia with a population that exceeds one million.

In spite of what we often hear about Siberia, I saw no prisons, the weather was 75-80 degrees and beautiful, and the sun shone for almost 20 hours per day (White Nights). Though the weather in Saint Petersburg and Novosibirsk was beautiful, even more beautiful was the work of the Lord we witnessed and conducted.

RRR is celebrating 25 years in Russia and so much has happened since we first began ministering in 1991. On this latest trip, I visited the little village of Morozova where Heather and I lived from 1992 – 1993. It was there that the ministry of RRR was born, and, much to my surprise and delight, I ran into a lady, Masha, who was part of the very first church we started in Russia in 1991. It was a joyful reunion. Would you consider, as others have done, making a special 25-year gift to RRR to continue to advance God’s work going well beyond 25 years? Thank you!

gukasyanIn Novosibirsk, we worked with a Pastor named Arthur who I had not met before. He heard of us and invited us to train his church how to do 1-1 discipleship of new believers. Arthur is from Armenia, transplanted by the Lord to Siberia, and his church is numbers almost 700 with many being saved regularly.

Arthur, in his earlier days in Armenia, was not a Christian. His wife Zhana, however, became a Christian and their first son was born with a serious birth defect and was on the verge

of death. As you can imagine, Zhana, was praying. One night, Zhana saw a man in a white robe come into their house and stand over Arthur. Arthur began to shake, fell on the floor, and rose up as a born-again, on-fire-for-the-Lord Christian. As well, their baby boy was miraculously healed at the same moment. Zhana told me that the man in the robe was Jesus, and he also visited her when she was saved. This radical work of Jesus has led this family to move to Siberia, start a church, minister in China, and see many saved and healed. Jesus is so good, everywhere.

We plan to visit Russia again in November, and Arthur has invited us to return to do advanced training. We also continue to work in Saint Petersburg where the work began. Thank you for your prayers, for your financial gifts, and please pray about going with us!
