Thoughts from Pastor Vitaly Maksimuk

14 September 2015 No Comment

maksimuk2Recently, I had a long phone conversation with pastor Vitaly Maksimuk our partner and friend. He is a pastor in Siberia and also he plants churches all over the former Soviet Union and beyond. Vitaly shared that they recently ordained 12 new pastors to plant churches. Pairs of them were sent to six different places in Siberia to plant churches. They are praying for the Lord to raise up four more.

Another big step for the church is the purchase of land that will finally allow them to build their own church building. For over two decades they have been renting different venues. A dream is coming true.

I asked Vitaly what he thinks the role of the American, European, and Russian churches are? Here is a brief version of his answer: The European church is dormant and weak overall. Europe really needs revival.

The American church in many ways is still the vanguard of the movement of God and brings the fire of revival and revelation to other parts of the world. There is a great revival going through Africa and Asia, but unfortunately the culture and the mindset of those countries is so different from Russia and the rest of the western world that most of the things in that movement cannot be reproduced in Russia or Europe.

America on the other hand is much closer in its culture to Russia and Europe. The Russian church is starting to becoming mission minded and is sending its first missionaries to Muslim countries and China. Politically, Russia seems to be going back to the ways of the USSR. The current president acts as a dictator in many ways and freedom is being suppressed No matter what happens, we need to be ready. The American church might have to remember their skills of “smuggling the gospel to Russia”.

Friends, thank you for reading this, for praying for Russian Christians and supporting this ministry financially.
