tomsk0Several months ago, when checking my Face Book account, I began noticing comments under my posts from a man that I did not recognize. His comments were positive and friendly, so

I went to his page hoping to understand how I might know him. Though I did not recognize him, I noticed we had some friends in common, but I still could not place him. I decided to write him directly to ask him to refresh my memory about how we met. It turned out that we never met in person. He stated that he knew me through a ministry that we brought the First Steps Discipleship Ministry to Siberia last year.

His name is Evgeniy and he is from the city of Tomsk in Siberia. He told me that he originally became a Christian in 1991 through the ministry of a church in Novosibirsk that RRR visited for the first time last year. He then moved to Tomsk to take over as pastor of a church whose founding pastor passed away.

For Evgeniy, the last several years in ministry were discouraging. The church became stagnate. People were lukewarm and indifferent, and the Church was not growing.

When we trained Evgeniy’s home church in Novosibirsk to disciple last year, he could not attend. He later acquired the materials from that seminar and began studying them on his own. In his own words, Evgeniy states, “The one-on-one discipleship training that you brought to us helped us so much. It triggered something in the spiritual realm for our church. It felt like the church began to come back to life. We feel like it helped us to overcome the stagnation and now the church is moving again. We expect it to continue and grow. This is not just subjective feelings. For last 7 years there was not a single person who got saved in our church. But, in just two weeks after the First Steps was presented, four new people accepted the Lord and one got baptized. It was a real celebration for us! People who have been coming to the church for years began to get excited again about reading the Bible, sharing their faith and having regular time of fellowship with one another. I can honestly say the whole atmosphere is changing in the church. People’s attitudes and mindsets are changing. God is visiting the church again and people are changed. I am so grateful to the Lord that he sent to us First Steps Discipleship training in such a timely manner. God is putting things back into divine order in the congregation and I can see his grace and mercy in this. Thank you.”
